Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 19

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 19 opens with a flashback to Nobara entering behind the curtain to save some people from danger. When he enters it, he realizes that everyone has perished. Meanwhile, we cut to Yuji and Nobara continuing their battles with their respective Mahitos in the present. Thanks to Nobara’s abilities, Yuji gains the upper hand in his fight. The Mahito clone fighting Nobara flees underground, with Nabara chasing after him.

Suddenly, the clone fighting Yuji flees and tries to meet his other half. The two clones cross and the clone fighting Yuji touches Nobara before Yuji is attacked. Fast forward to 2009 and we get a glimpse into Nobara’s past life aside from her boyfriend Fumi. Fumi reflects that despite being a new resident in the village, Nobara welcomed her with open arms and continued to play video games with her father.

Nobara and her visit a secret base. At this base, they encountered another new resident named Saori several times. Fumi mentions how Saori changed Nobara’s ways. In the end, Saori moved out and Fumi says how it affected Nobara. After that, Saori was never brought up again and we see what happened between Fumi and Nobara before she left for Tokyo. In the present, we see Saori discussing with a colleague her reasons for living in a rural village and her attachment to Nobara.

After reflecting on her life, Nobara tells Yuji to tell everyone that she lived a good life. The episode closes with Nobara seemingly dying in front of Yuji.

Episode review

After losing Nanami last week, Gege Akutami poured more salt into fans’ wounds by removing another beloved character from the story. This time it was one of our main roles, Nobara. Although her flashback was handled well and gave fans some context about her relationship with Fumi and the other villagers, more should have been done with her character in this arc.

However, it is important to note that Nobara’s corpse remains on the battlefield. Therefore, there is hope that Yuji’s allies will find a way to bring her back to life, unlike Nanami, who cannot be saved. Still, it would be a disservice to her character if she wasn’t brought back into the fray, as she didn’t have much to do in this arc aside from a few minor heroic moments.

Nobara aside, Yuji has had it rough the last few episodes. Not only is he somewhat responsible for many innocent people dying, but he had to witness two people he cared about die in front of his eyes. It will be interesting to see how much of an impact this has on him as we explore the content of this story further.

Overall, it was an emotional and action-packed chapter brimming with stunning visuals and high-quality animation. Let’s hope Yuji can find a way to defeat Mahita once and for all after all the chaos he’s caused.
