Summary:
Junpei could have been Yuji’s ally and a member of Jujutsu High. It wasn’t meant to be, as Mahito sacrifices Junpei to further his own agenda and make contact with Sukuna. In response to his friend’s death, Yuji unleashes a dark rage he has never known before.
Plot:
Yuji notices Mahito walking down the stairs closer to him and Junpei. He hesitates as he believes Mahito could be human before the cursed spirit reveals his nature and pins Yuji to the wall with a large deformed arm. He says it’s nice to meet Sukun’s vessel and Junpei tries to get Mahito to stop. Annoyed at himself for hesitating, Yuji realizes that Mahito is exactly the curse Nanami described.
Yuji tries to plead with Junpei to run away, but Junpei still believes that he is friends with Mahito. Junpei starts to say that Mahito is not a bad person, but he remembers all the cruel experiments he did on other people and realizes that Mahito was the enemy. Mahito puts his hand on Junpei’s shoulder and tells him straight into his ear that he should have been smarter than this.
All those people that Junpei looked down on as imbeciles, Mahito claims that he is just as stupid as them. Mahito adds in twisted and ominous words that this is why Junpei will die.
Using Idle Transfiguration, Mahito mutates Junpei’s body into a monster, terrifying Yuji. Unable to control his actions, Junpei attacks and Mahito states that this is the second round of their fight. Yuji pleads with Sukun to help Junpei, but the King of Curses refuses.
Sukuna knows that Yuji has forgotten their binding promise and decides to taunt him, confusing Mahita. Mahito knows that Sukuna has the ability to heal Junpei with the Reverse Cursed Technique, but questions if Yuji even made a binding vow.
Either way, the odds remain in Mahita’s favor. He decides to join Sukuna and laugh at Yuji as he tries to stop his fallen friend. In a state of rage and despair, Yuji reminds himself that creatures like Sukuna and Mahito will always be evil curses.
Junpei suddenly asks Yuji why this had to happen and dies. Mahito admits that he aggressively transformed him and made fun of his death. Fed up with Mahita’s existence, Yuji lands a powerful right fist that sends Mahita into the stairs. Mahito quickly recovers, and while he admits that Yuji’s attack is interesting, he still believes that it won’t work.
However, Mahito’s nose begins to bleed and he realizes that Yuji’s attack had an effect after all. This makes Mahito realize that due to the nature of his own soul sharing a body with Sukuna, Yuji has naturally learned how to sense soul contours.
Before, Yuji never wanted to get into a situation where he wanted to kill himself. However, at this point, Yuji is ready to destroy Mahita with all the power of his rage. Yuji says he’s going to kill Mahito, and the cursed spirit corrects him, saying jujutsu wizards should say “exorcism”.
